I was never a salad person. I grew up in a family where we only ate cooked vegetables. The thought of consuming raw vegetables never once crossed my mind until few weeks ago when I decided to be a little adventurous.
I bought some avocados and vegetables and since I am not good at cooking, I decided to make an avocado tomato salad out of them. I was neither confident nor had a high expectation that it was going to turn out good.
And wow, I was super surprised to find how amazingly delicious vegetables can be when consumed raw.
After that, I realized I’ve missed out so much on raw vegetables and their health benefits. Now with my avocado and raw vegetable addiction, I think I will be catching up to the missed salad in no time.
At my restaurant, we have this dish called Thai mango chicken. This dish contains freshly sliced mango, sliced onion, and chopped multi-color peppers stir-fried in Thai sweet and spicy mango sauce and topped off with minced cilantro.
Thai mango chicken is one of my favorite dishes. One day as I was eating this scrumptious and savory dish, I suddenly had the inspiration to make some kind of mango salad.
Since I’ve been making salads for several weeks now and I was pretty confident this salad was going to turn out beautiful and tasty.

I love the colors in this refreshing mango, avocado, purple cabbage, red onion, carrots, spinach, and cilantro salad with fresh lime juice and organic honey dressing. The mixture of these fresh ingredients makes it a fun and a colorful salad.
The crunchiness of the purple cabbage and red onion, the sweetness of the mango, the creaminess of the avocado, the textures, and the combination of all the other fresh ingredients and fresh flavor in this salad are perfectly balanced and lovely.
This avocado mango salad makes a perfect snack, side dish, or lunch, as well as for parties or family reunion. To make this salad a more complete meal, you can also add grilled shrimp, grilled salmon, grilled chicken, or grilled turkey.
For every recipe, I try to use as much organic ingredients as possible. If you can’t obtain organic, conventionally grown fruits and vegetables are better than none! They work fine for this avocado mango salad, but there are few things you need to be aware of.
Be sure to take extra care with non-organic or conventional vegetables by washing them thoroughly and removing peels and cores when possible to minimize your exposure to pesticides and other chemicals.
Certain fruits and vegetables also tend to be far more contaminated than others simply because they’re more susceptible to various infestations and therefore sprayed more heavily with pesticides, herbicides, insecticides and other chemicals.
Some foods are also more “absorbent” or more prone to sucking up chemicals with their thin, tender skins. Such foods would be high on your list for buying organic.

- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1/2 cup cheddar cheese or cubed mozzarella or any cheese you like
- 1/2 cup shredded/grilled chicken or turkey, grilled salmon, or grilled shrimp
1. Place diced avocado, cubed mango, chopped red onion, chopped spinach, minced cilantro, and shredded carrots in a large serving bowl.
2. Add 1 Tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil, 1 Tablespoon of freshly squeezed lime juice, and 1 Teaspoon of organic honey to the Avocado Mango Salad Recipe. Toss gently to combine ingredients.
3. Just before serving, toss with the following ingredients:
- 1/4 teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon sea salt or Himalayan salt or 3/4 teaspoon table salt
- If you like to add a little kick to the Avocado Mango Salad Recipe, add ½ teaspoon or more of the red pepper flake. Feel free to add additional optional add ins for a complete meal and extra deliciousness
4. Cover the serving bowl with a plastic food wrap and let the ingredients stand for about 5 minutes before serving to blend flavors.

Sulfur Containing Ingredients in the Avocado Mango Salad Recipe
- Avocados are high in tripeptide, which is formed when three amino acids are bonded together that breaks down to cysteine after digestion. Cysteine is a sulfuric amino acid, making avocado a great source of sulfur.
- Avocados are a heart healthy nutrient dense food that provides substantial amounts of vitamins, minerals and other nutrients with relatively few calories. In fact, 1/3 of a medium avocado (50g) has 80 calories and contributes nearly 20 vitamins and minerals, making it a great nutrient dense food choice.
